She directed the Human Sexuality Center at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, from 1973 to 1975; was a therapist at the Ohio State University Mental Health Clinic from 1975 to 1988. The GPCO was founded in 1979 and Meral Crane has been the clinical director ever since. She was also clinical instructor in the Department of Psychiatry of the College of Medicine at the Ohio State Univeristy from 1978 through 2004. She continues to serve as a frequent speaker, facilitator, and consultant in continuing education and in-service programs.
She has served terms as president of the Central Ohio Psychological Association and the Ohio chapter of the American Association for Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists.
Meral Crane has done postgraduate work at the Masters and Johnson Institute; the American Association for Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists; the Kinsey Institute for Sex Research; the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy; the American Family Therapy Academy. She regularly participates in Transgender related national and international gender health conventions.
